Our brand-new Eco Committee hit the ground running this autumn with their very first project: planting 200 spring bulbs across the school grounds. Armed with trowels, compost and plenty of enthusiasm, the twelve pupil members spent a full afternoon getting their hands dirty in the name of a greener school.
The bulbs – daffodils, tulips and crocuses – were donated by a local gardening centre after the committee wrote a persuasive letter explaining their plans for improving the school environment. By spring, the entrance and playground borders should be looking colourful and welcoming.
Committee Chair Evie (Year 5) said: “We want to make the school grounds nicer for everyone and show that we care about the environment. This is just the start – we have lots more ideas!”
Future projects include a litter-pick programme, a composting initiative and working towards the Green Flag Eco-Schools award. Well done to all involved!
