Starting school is a big moment for any child, and this year we have relaunched our Buddy System to give our newest Reception pupils the best possible start. Each Reception child has been paired with a Year 6 buddy who looks out for them at lunchtime, helps them find their way around, and is always a friendly face in the playground.
The buddies were chosen by their class teachers for their kindness, reliability and patience, and spent time before the start of term preparing for the role. They have taken their responsibilities incredibly seriously and the feedback from Reception parents has been overwhelmingly positive.
Buddy Mia (Year 6) said: “I was really nervous starting school, so I remember what it feels like. I just want to make sure the little ones feel happy and safe.”
The programme will continue throughout the year. We believe that building strong cross-year relationships is central to our school’s warm and inclusive culture.
